emerson’s birthday

Today was Emerson’s first birthday and we celebrated it at home with my mom. We opened her gifts and my mom, who is an amazing quilter (and blogger), made this growth chart for her.

She also made an adorable placemat for JP which looks just like him.

Instead of cake, Emerson had a cupcake, which turned out to be the perfect size for her. She had a little trouble blowing out her one candle, so she got some help from big brother.

If you click on the picture below, you can see her destruction of the birthday cupcake. At one point, she raises both arms above her head, her hands balled up in fists and this look on her face that says “I’m going to get you, cupcake!!” And then she demolished it.

We ran a bath for her and let her soak in it for a while. Then we had to drain out all the {blue} water and run some clean water for a second washing. It took some scrubbing to get that icing off of her, but so worth it.

It was a great birthday for her and the only thing that kept it from being perfect is that John couldn’t be here celebrating with us.
